Training for Adults
Girl Scouts of Crowley's Ridge Council offers a variety of challenging and exciting training courses and events for volunteers throughout the year, from New Leader training to special training events that focus on subjects that benefit adults working with girls. A complete schedule with course descriptions is published and distributed annually. All adults in Girl Scouting are welcome to attend training events and are encouraged to take courses that will enhance their volunteer development.
- Relaxed training environments
- Settings to network with other adults
- Presented by qualified Girl Scout Trainers
- Opportunities to earn adult development recognitions
Why not join us? Feedback consistently reports that participating in a Girl Scout educational opportunity is an experience that helps adults in their volunteer, as well as their personal lives.
How to Register for a Training or Program Event: All training courses and program events require pre-registration. Complete one of the forms found in the back of this book. Please register at least one week before the program event or the training date, or the event or course may be cancelled. All registered participants will be called if the event or training is cancelled. Please indicate on the registration form if you have any special training needs.
Fees: Fees for all events and training courses must be sent in with registration forms. Cancellations received one week (7 days) or more before an event or training course will receive a full refund payable within ten (10) working days. Cancellations received less than one week (6 days or less) before an event or training course will forfeit the registration fee. This policy is necessary to ensure adequate planning and efficient use of funds.
Required Training: All leaders and assistants are required to participate in Orientation, Age Level Training, and Child Protection Training. In addition, at least one member of the troop leadership team is required to participate in First Aid and CPR Training.
Leader Enrichment Training Courses: Additional optional courses are offered throughout the year.
Training Course Videos and Course Outlines: It is always preferred that volunteers attend scheduled training courses. However, if this is not possible, training course videos and a study guide to be completed are available to check out for Orientation, Daisy, Brownie and Junior Age Level Training. A check out fee of $5.00 is charged when renting the video, with a full refund upon return of the video. In addition, our online courses are now available for your convenience.
Nasty weather: Please follow the general guidelines below. Since our council covers a wide area, please always call the Girl Scout Service Center and we’ll do our best to leave information on our answering machine. Remember - those who pre-registered will be notified of the cancellation.
- For weekday trainings: if school is cancelled due to bad weather, then training will also be cancelled.
- For weekend trainings: If the major roads are snow covered or icy, then the training will be cancelled.
Required Training
All leaders and assistants are required to participate in Orientation, Age Level Training and Youth Protection Training. In addition, at least one member of the troop leadership team is required to participate in First Aid and CPR Training, and become re-certified as needed.
Orientation and Age Level Training sessions are scheduled in September and October. Leaders unable to attend these scheduled sessions have the option of checking out a training tape at the Council Service Center or completing the training on line. While it is always better to attend the training sessions “in person”, the other two options are available.
Youth Protection Training is usually held at October or November Leader Meetings. This short training session prepares leaders, who are mandated reporters of child abuse and endangerment, to identify children in danger and gives them information on who to and how to report it.
First Aid/CPR Training sessions are held several times and locations for the convenience of our volunteers. The cost is $15.00 which includes a book.
For specific training times and locations, please refer to the calendar.
Online Training
Welcome to the World of Girl Scouting! As a new Girl Scout troop leader you are required to participate in Orientation Training and Level training. You will need to refer to them to find the answers to the questions on the self study guide. If you did not receive your materials, please contact your Membership/Marketing Specialist, Service Team Manager or Lee Poindexter, Adult Development Director for Girl Scouts of Crowley’s Ridge Council. Please answer the questions on the study guide and mail or email the answers to lpoindexter@crgs.org
