2009 Spirit of Giving Campaign

Girls Scout Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas

Brief Description of the Campaign:

The Spirit of Giving Campaign is an annual statewide partnership to collect food and donations to support local hunger relief organizations and the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance.  The campaign will run from December 1, 2009 - December 18, 2009.

Each Participating organization will be paired with a hunger-relief agency from their community.  For instance your girls scout troop may decide to participate in the food drive.  They will be given a local agency as their partner.  We will help get you "paired up" with your local agency and will help you determine where and when to drop off food that you have collected during the campaign.  The local agency may be a soup kitchen, food pantry or shelter. The Alliance will get weekly reports from all participating locations as to the number and amount of food.  The Alliance will convert that information into pounds received and KATV will report the combined total pounds of food in their broadcasts.  At the end of the drive, or before if needed, the local partner agency will collect donated food from the bank.

Participating troops will compete with other troops in the state to determine who collected the most food during the campaign.  Based upon an organization's registration information the amount of food they collected will be turned into a pounds per person collected.  This will allow large and small troops to participate on a level playing field.  Recognition will be given to regional winners and the overall statewide winner.

What do you need to do to participate?

You must complete the attached registration form and return it to the Hunger Relief Alliance office by November 15, 2009.  A packet of information will be sent to you as soon as the registration is received.  This packet will give you information about what to collect, where to drop off donations, and how to publicize your food drive.  Everything you need to hold a successful food drive will be in the packet.

KATV Channel 7 is a major sponsor and will provide media assistance and coverage throughout the campaign.  Participating troops may be called upon for on site interviews and updates.

We hope you will consider this opportunity to join in the Spirit of Giving during the 2009 Holiday season.
