Calendar - August 2007

Girl Scout Service Center, Jonesboro

Lawrence County Service Unit meeting for all Girl Scout Leaders and Assistant Leaders will meet during the months of August, October, December, February and April at the Main Street Church of Christ in Walnut Ridge.  During the months of  September, November, January and March, Lawrence County Leaders will meet TBA in Black Rock.  The tme of these meetings will be 6:30 till 7:30.  The May meeting has not be determined.  No meetings during the month of June and July.  Meetings will resume in August 2008.

Girl Scout Service Center, Jonesboro

All troop leaders and assistant leaders are invited to attend the monthly service unit meetings.  At this meeting we will make plans for the coming year, discuss current Girl Scout events & issues and finalize plans for the fall recruitment events.  The meeting will be held at the Council Service Center.

Girl Scout Service Center, Jonesboro

This is the first opportunity for new leaders to particiapte in Orientation Training for the 2007-2008 Girl Scout year!  It will be held at the Council Service Center.  Registration is required for this training event - deadline to register is July 31.

Randolph County Service Unit meeting for all Girl Scout Leaders and Assistant Leaders will meet at the Pocahontas Community Center from 6:00 till 7:00 on the following dates in 2007:  September 13, October 11, November 8 and December 13.  Meeting dates for 2008:  January 10, February 14, March 13, April 10 and May 8.  No meetings during the month of June and July.  Meetings will resume in August 2008.

Celebrate National S'more's Day!

 Did you know........The first publication of the "official" S'mores Recipe appeared in the 1927 book, Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts.

How Girls Make S'mores:  1)Place chocolate bars on graham crackers     2)Toast marshmallows    3)Place toasted marshmallows on chocolate bars    4)Top with second graham cracker

How Boys Make S'mores:   1)Eat chocolate bars     2)Eat marshmallows     3)Throw graham crackers at other boys

S'mores Bars (Recipe):  1/2 c. butter, softened     1/2 c. sugar     1 egg     1 tsp. vanilla extract              3/4 c. graham cracker crumbs     3/4 c. all purpose flour     1 tsp. baking powder     1.7 oz. jar of marshmallow creme     4-6 chocolate bars

Heat oven to 350.  Grease 8 inch pan.  In large mixing bowl, cream butter & sugar until fluffy.  Beat in egg & vanilla extract.  Add graham cracker crumbs, flour & baking powder.  Beat until well mixed.  Spoon half of crumb mixture into pan and spread evenly.  Break chocolate bars into pieces and arrange over crumb mixture.  Spread a layer of marshmallow creme over chocolate.  Flatten remaining crumb mixture into "pancakes" and layer them over the marshmallow creme.  Bake 30 minutes, until golden brown.  Allow to cool.  Makes approximately 16 bars.

All Service Team Members are invited to kick off this Girl Scout year at the Fall Field Meeting which will be held at the Council Service Center!  Service Unit Managers, Troop Organizers, Product Sale Managers and Public Relations Representatives are urged to attend the morning session where they will hear the exciting plans for the coming year.  Lunch will be served prior to the afternoon session where job training will be held for the specific Service Team Member's jobs.  This is a super way to start the new Girl Scout year - deadline to register is August 10th.  The council shop will be open.
